Aerial > Aerial Video > My Patch (Part Two)

Filmed : August/ October, 2016

Duration : 5 minutes, 1 second

1. Egglestone Abbey, County Durham, UK

2. Penshaw Monument, Sunderland, UK

The second instalment of 'My Patch', featuring more of my favourite locations in the North-East of England, captured in video from the sky. First up is Egglestone Abbey, the charming ruins of a small monastery of Premonstratensian 'white canons', picturesquely set above a bend in the River Tees near Barnard Castle.

Remains include much of the 13th century church and a range of living quarters, with traces of their ingenious toilet drainage system.

The second part of the video features a visit to Penshaw Monument, a folly on a hill on the outskirts of Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. The Monument is a striking landmark of the North East and a symbol of home to those who live in the area. In 1844 it was built in memory of John George Lambton. Although it was designed to look its best from a distance, it’s definitely worth a closer look, as you'll see in my video.
